Shariah law. But Shariah law
requires second-class status for Jews
and Christians. Sabeel should be
more concerned about the religious
freedom of Christians in a future
Palestinian state than vaporizing

And if Israel is so bad, why is
Israel the only Middle East country
where the Christian population
is rising (from 34,000 in 1948 to

Islamic intolerance?

In a form letter that it asked its
members as individuals to send
to First Presbyterian Church,
StandWithUs writes: "Unfortunately,
Christianity has a centuries-long
tradition of anti-Semitism that has
lead to the torture and murder of
millions of Jews. In the past few
generations, I thought that Christian
society has gotten past the hatred,
past the blood libels, past the
incitement that caused Jews to be
condemned as Christ-killers and to
be used as scapegoats for all that is
wrong in society. Why would you
allow the renewal of the stigma of
anti-Semitism to be introduced into
your church?"
That's a profound question.
B'nai B'rith, which first brought
the Sabeel conference to light, has
joined forces with StandWithUs,
the American Jewish Committee,
the Jewish Community Relations
Council and the Anti-Defamation
League to alert our Christian friends
to the impending forum.
No wonder our Jewish communal
leaders continue to be concerned
that Sabeel speakers have resur-
rected concepts that are dangerously
anti-Semitic and typically promote
divestment as a logical punishment
of Israel at the conclusion of their
anti-Zionist presentations.
Sabeel means "way" in Arabic. For
Jews, it's a very troubled way. ❑
