A Moment Worth Sharing

T

oday's "A Fair to Remember:' running until 10 p.m. at the
Michigan State Fairgrounds in Detroit, is both a fitting
climax to an array of community events and activities cel-
ebrating Israel's 60th anniversary and a solid platform for renewed
commitment and passion for our Jewish future, at home and abroad.
In addition to the rides and attractions that make the State Fair a
family favorite — the food, music, booths, crafts and opportunities
for shmoozing also provide a distinctively Israeli and Jewish Detroit
experience.
If you're still sitting on the fence ... there's time for you to go right
now to jewishdetroit.org/israelsixty to purchase tickets and check
availability to enjoy the entertainment and the fireworks!
For the past several months, the Jewish News has provided
you with a series of stories focusing on Israel's 60th. I would
like to thank the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and
Congregation Shaarey Zedek of Oakland County for supporting this

editorial endeavor.
I would also like to recognize the remarkable efforts by the dozens of volunteers who worked
tirelessly and creatively for several months to bring today's "A Fair to Remember" to life. Their
talent and focus need to be harnessed and directed at other local Jewish communal initiatives
because "can't be done" isn't part of their vocabulary.
As we dash toward Elul and preparations for the new year, may we slow down just long enough
to savor our collective blessings and embrace today's special moment in our Jewish community's
history — and Israel's. ❑
