As the "Israel Sixty: A Fair to Remember" opens
from 3-10:30 p.m. today, the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit is proud to play host to one of
the largest Jewish celebrations in Detroit history
and a wonderful event for the entire family.
In the early years of the State of Israel, up to
15,000 people gathered for a celebration of Israel
at the Michigan State Fairgrounds in Detroit. For
Israel's 60th anniversary, the Jewish community will
rekindle that spirit by holding the largest gathering
of the Jewish community in more than half a cen-
tury, when we join together Thursday, Aug. 21, at the
Fairgrounds.
It will be an incredible celebration of Jewish pride,
Israel and our community featuring all the activities
of the State Fair, plus fireworks, Israeli and kosher
food, cultural and hands-on activities and music,
including Peter Himmelman, the Moshav Band and
more.
The community should rest assured that all rea-
sonable precautions have been taken to ensure that
this is a safe environment for everyone.
