It's not just about how your home looks,
It's about how it breathes.

Miriam Bergman and daughter Rachel, 14, of West Bloomfield file credentials.

on the computer with her beloved
Microsoft Excel program. Just one
question — "So you want to be a
volunteer?" — could mean 50 more
questions: "Do you need to be sitting
or can you stand for a few hours?"
"Can you work outside?""What special
skills do you have?" Berman puts all
the answers into a form and, miracu-
lously, comes out with one job.
Then there's Malka Glasner.
A native of Toronto, Glasner just
moved here. She's getting married to
Detroiter Noah Stromer on Sunday
at Congregation Shaarey Zedek of
Oakland County. She loves sports,
especially tennis, and has friends who
have participated in Maccabi, which
inspired her to volunteer. Then there's
all that free time she has because plan-
ning a wedding is always so incredibly
simple and relaxing.
Malka, who in real life is a medical

imaging professor, is registering vol-
unteers (the most popular job is food
service), smiling through it all and
maintaining a breathtaking ability to
stay calm.
Finally, Sklar credits her daughter,
Karen, for making the whole organiz-
ing thing easy. The Maccabi Games
director is famous for her ability to
stay on top of everything, from the
smallest detail to something over-
whelming — like Sunday night's
opening ceremonies. Now if only mom
and daughter could actually speak
more than once a week.
"It's a good thing I have her and her
family for dinner every Friday night;'
Sklar says. "Otherwise, I would never
see her:' ❑
