BETTE SCHEIN, 83, of
Farmington Hills, died
Aug. 4, 2008.
She was president of
the Sholem Aleichem
Institute for 17 years and
belonged to Hadassah,
the Workmen's Circle,
Schein
the Jewish Historical
Society and the Iota
Alpha Pi Sorority. Many years ago she
often would broadcast over radio with her
father, Harry Weinberg, on the Yiddidshe
Shtunde.
A graduate of Wayne University with
both a B.A. and an M.S., she had been an
English teacher at Miller High School and
until recently she read regularly for the
blind. She was an avid and accomplished
bridge player. She was devoted to her hus-
band, her children and her grandchildren.
Mrs. Schein is survived by her husband,
Herbert Schein; sons and daughters-in-
law, Randolph and Kathleen Schein of
Bloomfield Township, Richard Schein and
Nancy Dempsey of Southfield; grandchil-
dren, Caitlin Schein and Ross Alexander,
Conan Schein; many loving nieces and
nephews.
Mrs. Schein was the loving mother of
the late Edward Schein; dear sister of the
late Robert Weinberg, the late Herbert
Weinberg, the late Vera Turner.
Contributions may be made to Sholem
Aleichem Institute, 28690 Southfield Road,
#293, Southfield, MI 48076 or to a char-
ity of one's choice. Interment at Hebrew
Memorial Park. Arrangements by Hebrew
Memorial Chapel.
JUDITH SMITH, 78, of Beverly Hills, died
Aug. 6, 2008.
She is survived by her son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Ronald and Sara Smith of West
Bloomfield; daughter, Susan Schechter of
Beverly Hills; grandchildren, Jacob and
Harry Smith, Carla and Noah Schechter;
sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and
Leonard Cohn of Bloomfield Hills, Edwin
and Christine Levy of Clarkston; broth-
ers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arthur and
Dotty Smith, Martin and Gaye Smith.
Mrs. Smith was the beloved wife of the
late Gordon Smith.
Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery.

brother of the late Judy Goodgall and the
brother-in-law of Alan Goodgall.
