Enriching Taste Of Melton
The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit's Alliance for Jewish Education
will hold a Florence Melton Adult
Mini-School "Taste of Melton" infor-
mational session.
Sample lessons will be held on
Wednesday, Aug. 27, 7-8:30 p.m. at the
Max M. Fisher Federation Building,
6735 Telegraph Road, Bloomfield
Township, and Thursday, Aug. 28, 10-
11:30 a.m. at the Jewish Community
Center, West Bloomfield.
Melton instructor Rabbi Michele
Faudem will teach the sample lessons.
Melton Adult Mini-School director
Judy Loebl will be on hand to answer
questions.
Developed at Hebrew University of
Jerusalem, adult Jewish learners from
all backgrounds explore classic Jewish
sources in an intellectually stimulat-
ing, non-denominational environment.
There are no tests or homework.
The Florence Melton Adult Mini-
School is open to any member of
the Jewish community. The two-year
course meets weekly for 30 weeks per
year with faculty who encourage group
discussion and exploration of ideas.
Traditional Melton classes begin the
week of Sept. 8.
"Melton PEP" (Parent Education
Program) classes, for parents with
children ages newborn through the
fifth grade, will meet on Sunday
mornings at the West Bloomfield JCC.
New this year is "Melton for Busy
People a class for the busy profession-
al or early riser. This is an alternative
to the traditional two-year, two-hour
per week program. The class will meet
for one hour a week throughout the
year for approximately three years.
The Florence Melton Adult Mini-
School is sponsored by the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's
Alliance for Jewish Education and
the Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit and is gener-
ously hosted by Temple Israel of West
Bloomfield and Hillel Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit.

their Jewish knowledge. Sarah's Tent
meets in a private home in Ferndale,
and on occasion at different local agen-
cies.
Participants are treated to a pre-
sentation by a rabbi, cantor or Jewish
educator on a theme involving Jewish
culture, ritual or observance. A facilita-
tor from Jewish Family Service and a
staff person from the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit's Alliance for
Jewish Education are also present.

Women Meet To Study
The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit will hold its annual Women's
Day of Learning 12:15-3 p.m. Sunday,
Sept. 14, at the Max M. Fisher
Federation Building in Bloomfield
Township.
The program, "Women Are From
Genesis, Men Are From Leviticus," will
bring together Jewish women for a day
of study, discussion and camaraderie
with keynote speaker Rabbi Elyse
Goldstein.
Rabbi Goldstein serves as the direc-
tor of Kolel: The Adult Centre for
Liberal Jewish Learning, a full-time
adult education institute in Toronto.
She is the first woman to be elected as
president of the interdenominational
Toronto Board of Rabbis, and is past-
president of the Reform Rabbis of
Greater Toronto.
Immediately following the lecture,
participants will have the opportu-
nity to study in breakout sessions
with Rabbi Goldstein or local schol-
ars including Ruth Bergman, Bassie
Shemtov and Rebecca Starr.
The cost of the conference is $25
and includes lunch. Pre-registration is
requested. Walk-ins are welcome at a
cost of $30.
