Still Producing

Johnny Pomodoro's
fills Strawberry Hills
fresh market spot
in Farmington Hills.

j ohnny Pomodoro's Fresh Market,
specializing in produce, will open
Aug. 12 in the building occu-
pied by Strawberry Hills (Nino Salvaggio
International Marketplace), on the north-
east corner of 14 Mile and Middlebelt in
Farmington Hills, since 1986. Strawberry
Hills will close Aug. 10.
All Strawberry Hills employees will be
offered work at the Troy, Clinton Township
and St. Clair Shores stores or at the new
Johnny Pomodoro's. The two-day change-
over and employee familiarity will mini-
mize Strawberry Hills/Johnny Pomodoro's
customer inconvenience, the Salvaggio

family and Johnny Pomodoro's co-owners
say.
Johnny Pomodoro' is co-owned by
John Taormina and Dan Sonenberg. The
partners have announced plans to expand
their new store into 3,000 square feet of
adjacent space, provide wider aisles and
improve lighting. Their market fare will
include a large selection of garden fresh
produce, choice meats, jet-fresh seafood
and gourmet groceries.
Taormina has spent his career in the
grocery industry. He initially focused
on meat, later adding areas of expertise
in seafood and produce and retail store
management. Sonenberg specializes in dry
goods with an emphasis on gourmet and
specialty foods.
"Guest services will be a priority at
Johnny Pomodoro's," Sonenberg said. "We
plan to exceed our guests' expectations
with personal interaction and service such
as assisting guests with groceries to their

car and a professional party planner on
site each day"
Sonenberg is a lifelong member of
the Detroit Jewish community. He is a
Southfield High graduate. He and his wife,
Julie, live in West Bloomfield. He is former
owner of All-Star Foods, a specialty food
distributor, which he sold in 2007.
Kirk Taylor, president of Nino Salvaggio
International Marketplace, said, "We are

continuing to search for a site that suits
our needs as a replacemnt for Strawberry
Hills. It is premature to announce a spe-
cific location at this time."
Farmington Hills Mayor Jerry Ellis said,
"While Johnny Pomodoro's replaces a
longtime fixture in our area, we embrace
the change and look forward to a fresh
approach and new ideas:"
