AROUND TOWN

Sa ring ummer

Young adults fire up the grill and soak up the sun.

I

t was the perfect summer day —
sunshine, blue skies, kosher chicken
and hot dogs sizzling on the grill and
friends relaxing together at Kensington
Metropark in Milford. More than 90 mem-
bers of the Young Adult Division of the
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit
and Hillel of Metro Detroit came together
July 27 to enjoy a barbecue, the weather,
the great outdoors and each other's com-
pany.
"Hillel serves
college students
ages 18-30, YAD
serves the 21-40
crowd, so some-
times we over-
lap;' said Mitch
Wagner of Oak
Park, program
director for Hillel
Robin Schwartz of Metro Detroit.
"It was nice to get
Columnist
everyone together,
to show people
they're part of something bigger than just
YAD or Hiller
The group took over a large picnic area
and cooked out amid the grass, trees,
and the lake. They ate lunch, caught up,
made new friends and even took part in a
water-balloon toss and three-legged race.
"I loved looking around and seeing
people from both organizations mingling;'
said Ariana Blumenfeld of Berkley.
She co-chaired the event with Craig
Eidelman, also of Berkley.
"We also had several people who just
returned from the young adult mission
to Israel (June 29-July 8), so it was great
to see them again. It was a nice, relax-
ing Sunday. We enjoyed the sunshine
Blumenfeld said.
Spotted in the crowd were: Jodi Beals,
Jayme and Ryan Baruch and Lindsay
Rubin, all of West Bloomfield; Alex
Solomon, Jennifer, Todd, Marlee and
Lilley Kroll of Birmingham; David Moses
and Laurice Covensky, both of Bloomfield
Hills; Leor Barak of Detroit; and Julie
Borkin of Huntington Woods. ❑
