Holistic Healing

After many years of conventional
nursing practice, Denise Jacob of
Birmingham has dedicated her
career to holistic healing.
In her practice, she combines her
nursing background with training
in hypnotherapy, energy healing
and nutrition counseling to help
clients attain their goals.
She is a frequent speaker for
Gilda's Club and other area busi-
nesses and associations. Jacob
holds a bachelor's, master's and
doctoral degrees in nursing.
At 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, she
will present "Give Yourself the Gift
of Energy Healing" at Gilda's Club
in Royal Oak. The presentation is
free and open to the public.

Awards in Health
Markel
Policy Research
from the Robert
Wood Johnson Foundation. Dr.
Howard Markel, the George E.
Wantz Distinguished Professor of
the History of Medicine, and Dr.
Alexandra Minna Stern, will study
the history of non-pharmaceuti-
cal interventions and community
experiences during the 1918-1919
influenza pandemic in the United
States. Dr. Peter Ubel received an
award for his project Emotional
Adaptation and the Goals of
Healthcare Policy.

in ocular disease
at the John D.
Dingell Veterans Hospital in Detroit
after graduating from University
of Michigan and the New England
College of Optometry in Boston. Dr.
Cohen will reside in Royal Oak now
that she has accepted a position as
optometrist at the John D. Dingell
Veterans Hospital in Detroit.
