In a Bizdom U dorm are Mason Levey, seated, and John Hughes, 24, of Troy.

are shopping mall mogul Nate Forbes,
restaurateur Todd Stern, businessmen
Brian Hermelin and Rick Kovacs, real
estate developers Ron Klein, David
Friedman and Steve Eisenshtadt and
Craig Erlich, CEO of Star Trax/pulse
220.
"We strongly believe in Dan Gilberts
philosophy of doing as much as pos-
sible to help the city of Detroit;' said
Erlich of Bloomfield Hills, "and we're
doing all we can to further the Bizdom
program!'
He mentored Bizdom student John
Hughes of Troy, who visited Star Trax
offices several times "to learn how the
business was organized and operates,
and we had some intense individual
sessions to work on personal issues:'
Erlich said.
Friedman of West Bloomfield,
president and CEO of Friedman Real
Estate Group in Farmington Hills, and
Eisenshtadt of Farmington Hills, vice
president, each spoke to the group
and put together a comprehensive real
estate program for the class.
"Ten brokers from our office spoke
to the class for four-hour sessions each
in their areas of expertise, developing
an actual case study and challenging
them to work it out as if they had to
pick sites and find clients:' Eisenshtadt
said.
"We also brought them into the
Friedman offices to learn more about

the real estate business and took them
to a high-rise office building down-
town to pose as prospective clients
interested in leasing office and retail
space.
"We feel Bizdom is an excellent
program, and we're doing all we can
to help launch new businesses in

Detroit."

Forbes, managing partner of the
Forbes Co. in Southfield, even got the
graduates involved in an etiquette class
sponsored by the Somerset Collection
in Troy, a four-day session where they
learned about the proper attire for
meetings, how to entertain a client at
a restaurant, the importance of proper
correspondence and more.
Well-known civic leaders and sports
personalities also have dropped in
on the Bizdom classes from time to
time, such as Detroit Mayor Kwame
Kilpatrick, NBA and MSU great Earvin
"Magic" Johnson and Detroit Pistons
legends Dave Bing and Bob Lanier.
Lanier's "failure is not an option"
mantra became almost a battle cry for
Bizdom's first graduating class, and
gave the graduates — and the entire
Bizdom program — an extra shot of
inspiration and confidence. El
