Lesnick
for the four-year,
$2,000-per-year
scholarship is based on a distin-
guished record of leadership and
service during high school. Lesnick,
the son of Howard and Shari Lesnick
of West Bloomfield, is a graduate of
Walled Lake Central High School.
Leader Advancement Scholars reside
in the leadership residence hall and
complete eight courses with a special-
ized leadership emphasis. Lesnick will
participate in and take leadership roles
in student organizations, attend lead-
ership events and trainings, engage
in community service activities, join
university committees, plan campus
events, mentor freshman scholarship
recipients throughout the four-year
scholarship period.

appointed director of the Center for
Jewish Studies at the University of

At the 90th Optimist International
Convention held in Grapevine, Texas,
July 2-5, past-Michigan District
Optimist governor and Berkley resi-
dent Marc Katz was elected to serve
as one of eight Optimist International
vice presidents for the 2009-2010
Optimist year. Katz's region will
include the Michigan District as well
as the New York-New England, Atlantic
Central, Southwest Ontario, Central
Ontario and Midwest Ontario districts.

nationwide chosen as 2008-2009 ABA
student liaisons. Radner will serve a
one-year term as student liaison and
his duties will include writing articles
for the ABA Student Lawyer maga-
zine, submitting reports, attending
ABA meetings and serving as liaison
between the ABA and law students
interested in a practice that focuses
on white-collar crime. He expects to
graduate in 2010 but plans on gaining
even more experience before then.
"I will be working for a crimi-
nal defense attorney this fall while
attending school and plan to enroll
in both Criminal Procedure I and the
Advanced Criminal Topics Seminar
at Wayne Law [in Detroit] this fall:'
Radner said. "I look forward to a long
legal career and am very appreciative
of the experience I'm gaining right
now."
He earned a bachelor's degree in
talmudic law from the Yeshiva College
of the Nation's Capital.

Robbins, a
