RALPH ARREDONDO, 98, of Merrick,
N.Y., died July 9, 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret
Arredondo of Merrick; daughter and son-
in-law, Carmen and Robert Biederman
of West Bloomfield; son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Fred and Lea Arredondo of
Merrick; grandchildren, Debbie and
Albert Klemptner, David Biederman, Chris
Arredondo, Jayme Arredondo and Manina
Chuon; great-grandchildren, Ryan and
Emily Klemptner.
Interment out of state. Contributions

ROY H. CLARK, 86, of
West Bloomfield, died
July 8, 2008.
He was the owner of
Palais Bar (Beaubien
and Fort Street in
Detroit) and sold it in
1980. He then drove a
Clark
linen truck for 15 years.
He also owned a bar in New York and a
hotel in Greenfield, Mass.
During World War II, Mr. Clark was in
the Army Air Corps and was a radio oper-
ator in the Pacific. He received two Bronze
Stars and a Purple Heart.
When he was 10, he had played in his
first organized baseball league on Detroit's
east side. He developed his skills at Durfee
Junior High School. From 1937-1939,
he was the catcher on the Central High
School team and as a senior he made the
all-city team.
After Central, Mr. Clark attended
Lawrence Tech on a scholarship. During
the summer, he signed a contract to play
semi-pro baseball for a team in Durham,
N.C.; there he batted .325 as the start-
ing catcher. He was offered a four-year
scholarship to play baseball at Michigan
State but chose to follow a dream and
signed a contract to play professionally
for the Bluebird, W. Va., Blue-Grays of the
Mountain State League. He was inducted
in the Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of
Fame in 2007 on the same day as his
grandson, Jacob.
He had also served as commander of
the Joseph Bale Post of the Jewish War
Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Clark
of West Bloomfield; sons and daughters-
in-law, Steven Clark of Saginaw, Clifford
and Colleen Clark of Chelsea, Bruce and
Carol Clark of Farmington Hills, Eric and
Nancy Clark of Bloomfield Hills, Paul
Clark of Royal Oak and Glen and Kelly
Clark of Farmington Hills; grandchildren,
Bryan, Michael, Hanna, Quinton, Eli,
Matthew, Emily, Jacob, Rachel and Jenna;
sister, Shirley Ludwig of Boca Raton, Fla.
Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery.

Kaufman Chapel.
LEONARD DROOTMAN, 87, of West
Bloomfield, died July 12, 2008.
He is survived by his beloved wife,
Evelyn Drootman; daughter and son-
in-law, Susan and Michael Pearl of West
Bloomfield; son and daughter-in-law,
Irwin and Rita Drootman; grandchildren,
Bradley and Emily Pearl, Eric and Anita
Drootman; brother-in-law, Joe (Toni)
Ernst.
Mr. Drootman was the dear brother of
the late Sarabel (the late Ben) Panter.
Interment at the Adat Shalom Memorial
Park. Contributions may be made to Adat
Shalom Synagogue, to the Greater Detroit
Chapter of Hadassah or to a charity of
one's choice. Arrangements by Doi fulan
Chapel.
