Defining Crohn's And Ulcerative Colitis
Crohn's Disease is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the intestines. The
disease is related to ulcerative colitis, another inflammatory condition concern-
ing the colon. Both ulcerative colitis and Crohn's Disease oscillate between inter-
vals of remission and relapse. There is no known medical cure for the diseases
that afflict approximately 500,000 to 2 million people in the United States.

However, Sussman has not had easy
sailing. Phat Alice encountered seven
storms on its way to Bermuda alone,
ripping the mainsail from the mast and
breaking both the auto-helms. Despite
the damages, Phat Alice arrived safely in
Bermuda where she could be repaired.
"Bermuda is beautiful, and the people
are wonderful," Sussman said in his blog.
After a short stay, the crew headed on
to Britain.
"All was well until about halfway
between Bermuda and the IJK," Sussman
said. "We hit a spot of weather — 50-mile
winds on the nose, 30-foot waves — and

lost the steering gear, much of the elec-
tronics and a water tank. We threw down
a sea anchor, jury rigged the steering and
decided to see how the Azores look this
time of year."
Sussman said a playful pod of dolphins
then chaperoned Phat Alice on her eight-
day voyage to Horta, on the island of Faial.
Phat Alice has no final sailing date. "It's
impossible to know how long these things
will take. We're in no hurry:' Sussman said.
Sussman's brother, Eitan, is one of the
campaign's spokespersons while Sussman
is at sea.
"Whenever Yossi wanted to do some-
thing, he would just set his mind to it and
do it," Eitan said. "That is the spirit that
