IRVING ASHIN, 86, of Oak Park, died July
4, 2008.
He is survived by his sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Brian and Judith Ashin of
Ann Arbor, Todd and Tzipi Ashin of Oak
Park; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth
and Garland Strother of River Ridge, La.;
brothers and sister-in-law, Morris Ashin
of New Jersey, Zelick and Elaine Ashin of
New Jersey; sister, Irene Greenberg of New
Jersey; grandchildren, Benjamin, Kathryn,
Yakov, Bayla, Shmuel, Binyomin, Moshe,
Elimelech, Aryeh.
Mr. Ashin was the beloved husband of
the late Florence Ashin; dear brother of the
late Paul Ashin.

PHYLIS BELSKY, 80, of Southfield, died
July 1, 2008.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold
Belsky; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry
and Maggi Belsky of Waterford, Bruce and
Donna Belsky of Farmington Hills; daugh-
ter, Susan Wagner of Farmington Hills;
grandchildren, Blake, Zack, Nick, Shannon,
Kenny, Ali.
Mrs. Belsky was the dear sister of the
late Alan Bartel.

MINNIE BERNBERG, 94, of Southfield,
died July 6, 2008.
She is survived by her daughter and
son-in-law, Merle and Steven Band of West
Bloomfield; sister-in-law, Mollie Cohen;
grandchildren, Michael Harris Band;
many loving nieces and nephews, cousins
and friends.

ROBERT CURTIS BRAUN, 54, died July
4, 2008, after a long and courageous battle
with ALS. He was born on Aug. 25, 1953, in
Detroit and grew up in Oak Park. For the
last 27 years, in partnership with his wife,
Karen, he built and operated a successful
electrical contracting business, earning
enormous respect for his ability to engi-
neer a solution to almost any problem.
He traveled to many countries, but his
two favorite places were in his workshop

with his crew and at home with his family.
The survivors will cherish memories of
Mr. Braun, as will countless other family
members, friends and employees whose
lives he has touched. They will remember
him for his generosity, his fairness, his
hard work and his strong spirit.
Mr. Braun is survived by his wife, Karen;
children, Lauren, Alex and Leah; son-in-
law, Igor; mother, Joan; sisters, Miriam
and Susan; brother, Lawrence.
The family will host a memorial ser-
vice at their home on Sunday, July 13.

ESTHER FEALK, 85,
of West Bloomfield
died July 3, 2008. She
was a past president
of Detroit's Women
Division of American
Jewish Congress and a
former vice president
Fealk
of the Detroit Jewish
Community Council.
Although she was not formally college
educated, Mrs. Fealk was an avid reader
and devoted to learning as much as she
could about world events, especially Israel
and the Middle East. She faced the many
challenges of her life, such as the long ill-
ness and eventual death of her daughter
Lisa, the tragic death of her son-in-law
Larry, and the death of her beloved
husband, Herb, with determination and
dignity. She always made sure that she did
all she could to make her family feel com-
fortable and loved. As Alzheimer's over-
took her life, her quiet dignity remained
through her own final moments.
Mrs. Fealk is survived by her daughters
and son-in-law, Barbara Edelman and
Wendy (Dr. Richard) Flusty; grandchil-
dren, Marisa (Dr. Seth) Forman, Brent
Flusty and Laura Flusty; great-grandchil-
dren, Lia and Zachary Forman; sisters,
Irene Citron and Ann Benderoff; many
loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Fealk was the beloved wife of the
late Herbert Fealk; mother of the late
Lisa Fealk; mother-in-law of the late Dr.
Lawrence Edelman; sister of the late Nate
Willis; sister-in-law of the late Arnold
Citron, the late Dr. Fred Benderoff, the late
Leonard and the late Vicky Fealk, the late
Philip Fealk; daughter of the late Rachel
and the late Philip Willis.
Interment at Adat Shalom Cemetery.

He is survived by his

the late Ida Katzman, the late Julius
Fantich, the late Milton Fantich.

SELMA GOODMAN,
85, of Riverview, Mich.,
died July 5, 2008. In the
Southgate Community
School system, Mrs.
Goodman was a class-
room teacher for four
years and a social

worker for 31 years. She
also acted as director of
elementary counseling, was the author of
a basic skills program at the junior high
level, was chair of the Drug Education
and Health Curriculum of Wayne County
and a coordinator for a health education
program.
She was deeply involved in early child-
hood education in Southgate. She wrote
a reading readiness program, developed
preschool and head start programs for the
district and was involved in programs that
were cited for excellence by Wayne County.
In her role as a practicing attorney, Mrs.
Goodman worked with law firms in New
York City as well as Southgate.
In addition, she helped plan downriver
community mental health programs,
served on the original board of directors
of the Downriver Guidance Clinic and the
Downriver Mental Health Board.
Mrs. Goodman is survived by her
daughter and son-in-law, Ilene and Randy
Gill of Grosse Ile; grandchildren, Stefanie
and Justin Gill; sister, Marsha Bell of
Riverview.

She was the beloved wife of the late
Edward Goodman.
Interment at Beth El Memorial Park.

DR. HENRY KAINE, 85,
of Bloomfield Hills, died
July 6, 2008. A cavalry
Army veteran of World
War II, he became an
endocrinologist. Dr.
Kaine was also a camp
doctor for 15 summers
Kahle
and a county retire-
ment board doctor
for 15 years. He was the past head of the
Michigan Chapter of the American Diabetes
Association and he participated in many
photography clubs.
Dr. Kaine is survived by his wife, Sue
Kaine of Bloomfield Hills; children, Dr.
Jeffrey Kaine and Bami Famous-Kaine,
Karen Faber, Betsy and Dr. Ronald Spalter,
Nancy and Jesse Ishikawa; grandchildren,
Judith Kaine, Daniel Kaine, Dane Derstine,
Michael Faber, David Faber, Julie Faber,
Alison Spalter and her fiance, Jeremy
Manson, Emily Spalter, Sara Spalter,
Beth Ishikawa, Barry Ishikawa and Jack
Ishikawa; sister, Jeanne Shaw; brother-in-
law and sister-in-law, John and Sue Dreifus.
He was the beloved grandfather of the
late Katelyn Derstine; the loving brother-in-
law of the late Morris Shaw.
