The winner of several national and
state culinary competitions while still in
high school, Sklar worked in the kitchen
at the now-closed Emily's restaurant in
Northville and completed an externship
at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Dearborn
during culinary school.
He took culinary arts dasses at the
Oakland Schools Technical Campus
Southwest in Walled Lake while he was a
student at North Farmington High School.
His love of cooking evolved into a busi-
ness."While I was in school in New York,
I started doing small, high-end, six- to
eight-course sit-down parties in homes:'
he said. Ifs something he continues to
enjoy planning. "I was getting a following,
so I opened Cutting Edge Cuisine:'
A Web site, cuttingedgecuisine.com , will
be accessible soon. Sklar is ready to launch
cuttingedgetogo.com, an online extension
of his catering business. "It will serve the
highest-end food — with a focus on Jewish
foods — delivered to homes on holidays','
he said.

Sklar is moved by some of the responses
he gets from clients. "A woman hugged me
and said, `You made my event, and that
touched me; it was so rewarding."
And he is thrilled to be a part of Shir
Shalom in his new capacity. "I was bar
mitzvah on the bimah there and now they
are one of my clients. This place is my home
and I want to do more things for them:'
