Skill, Sensitivity and Tradition
come together to create your special Bris.

Professional artist Steven Gamburd
of Oak Park created a masterful Noah's
ark. "There's not much I can do about
repairing the apartment complex, but
I can support and encourage the arts:'
he said.
Margery Klausner of Southfield
came to paint with her three sons,
Nathan, 9, Eli, 6 and Daniel, 4. All had
paint on their clothes and hair, but
looked very pleased with their section
that featured ducks, a rainbow and
abstract objects.
"It's nice to be painting and cheer
people up:' Nathan said.
His mother said they talked about
why they were participating in the
project on the ride over. "As Jewish
people, we feel we should run to do
a mitzvah:' she said. "We can't return
their couches or clothes, but this is
what we can do to help. This is our
small part."
Carol Hilf of West Bloomfield is an
artist who created vivid, cheery flow-
ers in a space for JAS. "It was a labor of
love:' Hilf said. "They took care of my
husband so I could have him home. He
loved going to the Brown [Adult Day
Care] Center!'

Meanwhile, JAS board member
Robin Trepeck and her daughter
Jamie, 6, were working hard on their
spaces with Jimmy Berlin and his son,
Miles, 7, all of Huntington Woods. One
had a globe with people holding hands
around it; the other had a rainbow,
U.S. and Israeli flags and handprints.
Susie Fenster of Farmington Hills
explained that her multigenerational
family gathered to create a massive
family tree designed by Fenster's sister,
art teacher Debbie Weiss of Gary, Ind.
A happy bird with red hair sat on one
limb and represented the matriarch
of the family, Eva Kopitz, who recently
turned 95. She lost her apartment in
the fire and has been living at Prentis
Jewish Apartments in Oak Park.
By mid-afternoon, Marilyn
Bruseloff and Ruth Farber, who both
live in Hechtman I, were on their daily
walk. They smiled as they strolled by
the newly painted fence.
"I didn't know what it would be like
— it's beautiful and really lifts us up,"
Farber said.
"The Jewish community in this area,
they get out and do," Bruseloff said.
"They really care." ❑
