T

he children at Gan Shalom Parenting Center
and Preschool at Congregation Beth Shalom
in Oak Park recently "flew" to Israel to cel-
ebrate the country's 60th birthday. Traveling from the
school wing to Beth Shalom's social hall, the children
entered "Israel" for music, dance and other activities..
They visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem, fished
at Eilat, swam in the Dead Sea, painted Chagall windows and worked at an
archeology site. They even ate falafel, hummous, pizza and a birthday cake.
Teachers who planned the program included Nomi Rottensten and Ronit
Goutkovich of Southfield and Leslie Fishman of Bloomfield Hills.
