te around the world a Story by Alan Hitsky Photos by Angie Baan T he students get better and smarter every year, according to veteran dance teacher Harriet Berg. This year's Tuesday morning dance class at the Jimmy Prentis Morris Jewish Community Center ended their dance season with a June 3 recital, "Tuesday Twinkletoes Dance Around the World." The routines celebrated Israel, Italy, Japan and France. The 30-minute program was followed by a reception so that family and friends could greet the ballerinas. This year's artists included, top photograph from left, Annie Citron, 5, of Huntington Woods, Rebecca Bernard, 4, of Berkley, Rachel Gaft, 4, of Huntington Woods and Lillie Citron, 3, of Huntington Woods. Rachel's brother, Ross Gaft, 12, assisted the dancers and provided musical interludes on the piano during costume changes. Harriet Berg has been teaching the class since 1959, first at the Meyers-Curtis JCC in Detroit and then at JPM in Oak Park. Next year will mark its 50th season. Berg also teaches adult women in her Festival Dancers at the JCC's Kahn Building in West Bloomfield. ❑ June 19 0 2008 C17
