A
nswer: Dear Anonymous,
Nutrition can have a
substantial impact on
cancer—by lessening the chances
of an occurrence or recurrence of
cancer, in ameliorating the effects
of cancer and cancer treatment,
and assisting in recovery.
For example, the American In-
stitute for Cancer Research, has
identified a number of evidence-
based recommendations for help
in preventing cancer, which
can be summarized as
follows:
1
• Choose mostly plant
' foods, limit red meat, and
avoid processed meat;
• Be physically active
every day in any way
for 30 minutes or more;
• Aim to be a healthy
weight throughout life.
(
Nutrition can also play
an important role in the
relief of cancer symptoms and
treatment effects, such as:
• Anorexia, nausea, diarrhea;
• Taste changes, dry mouth,
mouth sores, and infections;
• Malnutrition, vitamin deficien-
cies, low white cell count, etc.;
