"That despite our differences, we are all Jews and all responsible for each other;' he said, adding, "It is, therefore, our responsibility to make sure the Jewish community [in Kiev] grows and matures so that perhaps it can one day regain its place as a leading Jewish community in Eastern Europe." JWV Scholarships The Department of Michigan Jewish War Veterans of USA and Ladies Auxiliary will be awarding 24 college scholarships to kick off the annual convention activities at the Jewish Community Center in Oak Park at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26. The $750 scholarships are given without regard to religion or ethnicity and are determined by an impartial committee of educators. Funds are raised through the annual poppy sales and private donations. The event is chaired by Shirlee Marshall and Herb Benson. The public is invited. Light refreshments will be served.
