Spartans For Israel Honored By AIPAC

he MSU Spartans for Israel has
earned the American Israel
Public Affairs Commmitee Duke
Rudman National Leadership Award.
The MSU students received the award at

a June 3 campus awards luncheon during
the AIPAC policy conference June 2-4 in
Washington, D.C. The AIPAC conference
was attended by 7,000 people, including
1,200 university students from throughout
the United States.
Cited for outstanding pro-Israeli
advocacy programs are Eric Dropkin, a
junior of Farmington Hills and president
of Spartans for Israel, majoring in mar-
keting; David Minden, a senior of West
Bloomfield, president of the MSU Hillel
Jewish Student Union, majoring in inter-
national relations; Mike Epstein of West
Bloomfield, a first-year law student; Aaron
Schaer, a senior of Huntington Woods and
an international relations major; Bryan
Stone, a senior of Cleveland, Ohio, major-
ing in political theory; Marissa Tons, a
junior of Okemos, an international rela-
tions major.
The past year, Spartans for Israel held
a variety of pro-Israel events, including

cosponsoring and producing the annual
Israel Fest. It also arranged campus coffee
clutch meetings, providing a stream of
Israel news updates to students and devel-
oped letter writing campaigns to campus
and local newspapers advocating for Israel
and focusing on key issues facing the
country.
Jessica Katz of West Bloomfield, the
newly appointed program director for
MSU Hillel, accompanied the group to
Washington.
Other MSU students attending the
conference included recent interna-
tional relations graduate Josh Kaplan of
West Bloomfield; Barnet Gold, a James
Madison sophomore of Detroit; Igor
Shleypak of Southfield, a junior, majoring
in political theory; Jordan Lebowitz of
West Bloomfield, a first-year law student,
and Sam Plotkin, a sophomore in James
Madison from Huntington Woods. ❑
