May was a very busy and productive month for Kadima. On May
15th Kadima and Congregation Shaarey Zedek sponsored a commu-
nity-wide educational evening with the showing of the film, "Canvas"
at the Shaarey Zedek B'nai Israel Center. It was a very well-attended
event, and after watching the very poignant movie of a family torn
apart by the mother's schizophrenia, Dr. Elliot Luby commented on the
film's realistic portrayal of the struggle of any family dealing with a
loved one with a mental illness. May 21st was Kadima's annual din-
ner and installation ceremony, and I would like to again welcome new
Kadima board members Ted Kroll, Ann Mandelbaum Mann, and Joy
Nachman!! Dr. Jeff London, child psychiatrist, addressed the Kadima
staff and board members at the dinner with his thoughts about the
Kadima Youth Initiative's mission to identify and prioritize direct service
projects and public policy issues important to the children of Oakland
County, Metro Detroit, and the State of Michigan. With his wonderful
humor and musical talent, Dr. London serenaded the Kadima folks at the
annual dinner with a Harry Belafonte version of "Ka — di - ma" to the
tune of "Matilda!"

is our first ever Kadima Family Fun Fair
at the Summer Impressions Day Camp
in West Bloomfield. If you have children
or grandchildren between the ages of 3
and 10, come and join us for a fun day
of rock climbing, exploring the art barn,
playing miniature golf, visiting the petting
zoo, and eating great food!! The Kadima
Golf Outing will take place at Knollwood
Country Club on Monday, July 14th with
registration beginning at 11:30 AM and
the shotgun start at 1:00 PM. Cocktails,
Gail Katz, President
auction, dinner, awards and raffle will follow in the evening! The
Kadima Golf Outing proceeds benefit the Lois and Milton Y. Zussman
Activity Center, the place for Kadima clients to gather and enjoy social
and recreational activities with their peers in an atmosphere of friendship
and acceptance.

I wish everyone a wonderful and peaceful summer!

On Monday, June 9th I will be traveling up north with two other
Kadima board members to spend some outdoor time with thirty of our
Kadima clients up at Camp Sea-Gull in Charlevoix. Sunday, June 22nd
