Call for Nominees for the 21st Annual

for Outstanding Professional Service

created by Mandell L. and Madeleine. H. Berman

Eligibility for Nomination

Laura Markofsky, far right, with

Rachel Tovian and Roy Kirsch.

"When I housed kids, it was the
most incredible experience I ever
had:' says Sandi Matz of Franklin.
"My kids loved having the athletes
in the house and watching them at
the event. I felt good about opening
my home and making them part of
my family."
People have the mistaken idea
that housing is a lot of work. But it
really means just a little driving and
a little food, she says. "Once the kids
arrive, it's like having two or three or
four more of your own. Sometimes
they can be a little shy at first, but
they're so excited to be there and
soon they'll fit right in:'
Jeff and Leah Fox of West
Bloomfield have made the Maccabi
Games a family tradition. Athletes
stayed at their homes in 1984 and
1998; and they have a bunch coming
this year, too. The Fox children have
played in the Games; Jeff Fox is a
co-chair of the transportation corn-
mittee. Daughter Lindsey is assistant
director of this year's Games and
daughter Jodi is a soccer coach
for the girls' team. "You're giving
back, that's all — and you will find
rewards:' he says.
Like the Markofskys, the Foxes
have kept in touch with children
they hosted over the years, and
Lindsey's best friend is a former
houseguest.
"We really look forward to having
the kids here Fox said. "Even my
mother, who is 88, comes to some of
the Games. And she's planning on
volunteering this year."
