ES T Torah Extravaganza! Kids turn into teachers for Shavuot. T o welcome Shavuot, Congregation Beth Ahm in West Bloomfield plans a spe- cial evening with several events. Children are the focus of the third annual Dvar Torah Extravaganza beginning 4:30 pm. Sunday, June 8. Students in grades K-12 will be the teachers with each sharing a dvar Torah (a lesson of Torah) in honor of Shavuot. For a younger child, it may be an explana- tion of who is their favorite person in the Torah. An older child may talk about Rabbi a tradition or ethical Rubenstein teaching meaningful to them. The Dvar Torah Extravaganza is open to all fami- lies without regard to congregational affiliation. Following will be a dairy dinner Howard for which advance Lupovitch reservations are required. The cost for dinner is $18 per family (parents and children). Grandparents, other family members and guests are wel- come to attend for an additional cost of $10 per person. After dinner at 9:30 p.m. , Beth Ahm will daven Maariv followed by a Tikkun Leil Shavuot, a kabbalistic tradition of late-night Torah study ses- sions for adults and teens. This year's theme will be "Enriching Our Understanding of Torah through Etz Hayim (Tree of Life)." Instructors will include Rabbi Steven Rubenstein, Prof. Howard N. Lupovitch and others, all focusing on the Conservative movement's Etz Hayim chumash (Five Book of Moses). The event will run at least through midnight. Light refreshments will be served throughout the evening. No knowledge of Hebrew is required to participate, learn and enjoy. Tikun Leil Shavuot is open to all lifelong learners, regardless of affiliation. There is no charge, and no reservations are needed. Walk-ins are welcome.
