Bloomfield as
director of devel-
opment.
Shapiro's career
includes 20
years with the
American Jewish
Committee, 18
years as Michigan
area director. In
Sharona Shapiro
this position, she
developed posi-
tive relationships between the Detroit-
area Jewish community and the
region's non-Jewish community lead-
ers. She was responsible for recruiting
volunteer leadership for the American
Jewish Committee and for its local
fundraising.
Since retiring from the American
Jewish Committee, she has been
the family education coordinator at
Temple Israel in West Bloomfield.

year that Huron Valley-Sinai has pro-
vided cancer services.
Scott Burton, a cancer survivor,
comic and juggler who has appeared
on national television, will speak
about humor as a tool for coping with
illness. Live jazz and refreshments will
be part of the celebration; admission
is free.
Participants are invited to bring a
plant for a perennial plant exchange.

Survivorship University
Hosts Annual 'Big Event'
Survivorship University, a community
education program of the Detroit-
based Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer
Institute will present its fourth annual
Celebration of Survivorship at 5:30 8
p.m. Thursday, June 19, at Shriners
Auditorium and Conference Center,
24350 Southfield Road, Southfield.
The evening will include speakers,
exhibits and honors given to cancer
survivors.
The celebration is free and open to
the community, and registration is
