Remembering The Fallen
Battle of the Bulge veteran Alan Nachman of Berkley dwells on the pictures
of the 224 fellow local Jewish servicemen who died during World War II.
The permanent exhibit in the Memorial Room of the Jewish Community
Center in Oak Park is open to the public during normal JCC hours. Also
on display is the account of award of the Congressional Medal of Honor
to Lt. Raymond Zussman of Hamtramck.

Hikers Hit The 'Trail'

The Jewish Hikers of Michigan
(JHOM) will host the fourth hiking
event for 2008 on Sunday, May 18, at 1
p.m. at Matthaei Botanical Gardens, 10
minutes from downtown Ann Arbor.
JHOM hikes are designed to cul-
tivate the love of nature, spirituality,
social interaction and physical activity.
They are targeted for those who love
nature and like to meet new people.
Bring backpacks, munchies and
water. Activity will last approximately
11/2 to 2 hours. The hike is not physi-
cally demanding and is very scenic.

Tamarack Dreams

Tamarack Camps was recently selected
as one of some 100 area camps to par-
ticipate in the Detroit Free Press' 16th
annual Summer Dreams program.
The program, funded by the
Skillman Foundation, raises money
for summer camps that provide kids
with special experiences.
Tamarack Camps, established by the
Fresh Air Society, provides enriching
Jewish camping experiences for children
and families, independent of financial
ability, building a vibrant community.
"We're proud to partner with the
Detroit Free Press and the Skillman
Foundation for this important cause
said Jonah Geller, Tamarack's execu-
tive director. "We believe the experi-
ences we provide our community's
youth have a profound impact on their
Jewish identity, overall self-esteem and
self-confidence, and their understand-
ing about the significance and benefits
of community"
Funds raised by the Summer
Dreams program will help subsidize
Tamarack's financial assistance pro-

gram as well as purchase waterfront
equipment. Tamarack Camps provides
assistance to all qualified Jewish
children by way of donations from
individuals, families and organiza-
tions like the Detroit Free Press and the
Skillman Foundation.
To make a donation and help
provide a child with a Jewish camp
experience, please send a check pay-
able to "Children First:' do Tamarack
Camps, 6735 Telegraph Road, Suite
380, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48301. Every
donation will be matched by the
Skillman Foundation.

ADL Headliner Gala

The second annual Anti-Defamation
League-Michigan Region's Headliners
Gala will be held on Monday, June 30,
at the Townsend Hotel, Birmingham.
This year's honoree is Joe Dumars,
NBA Hall of Famer and president of
the Detroit Pistons. The ADL also is
recognizing the Pistons organization
for its community outreach.
The NBA, which promotes the
league's social responsibility and com-
munity outreach initiatives, has joined
with the ADL to support joint mes-
sages of respect, mutual understand-
ing and fair play to youth and adults
across the United States.
Headliners honorees last year were
Willie Horton (Detroit Tigers), Vinnie
Johnson (Detroit Pistons), Ted Lindsay
(Detroit Red Wings) and Charlie
Sanders (Detroit Lions).
The event will feature silent and
live auctions and live entertainment.
Ticket cost is $200 for patrons 35 and
older; $136 for patrons younger than
35. For ticket, corporate sponsorship
and auction donation information, call

The VIP party will be at 5:30 p.m.
with the main event at 6.
