avid Wolkinson of West
Bloomfield has announced
his intention to run for the
Republican nomination for state rep-
resentative in the 39th House District,
which includes West Bloomfield,
Commerce and Wolverine
Lake.
The incumbent, State
Rep. David Law, who is
term limited, is running for
Oakland County prosecutor.
The primary election is
Aug. 5.
Wolkinson is active in

the Jewish and pro-Israel
Wolkinson
communities. He is work-
ing on draft legislation to increase
Michigan-Israel trading ties and create
incentives to bring Israeli businesses
that choose to relocate to the U.S. to
Michigan.
"We have the best workers, precious
natural resources and outstanding
learning institutions. I am convinced
we can once again lead the way in pro-
ductivity, education and innovation;'
he said.
Wolkinson centers his campaign on

making government better address key
issues: jobs, public safety and funding
children's classrooms.
"Homeowners and families
shouldn't have to pay for Lansing's
mistakes:' said Wolkinson. "With state
spending at an all-time high,
taxpayers deserve better.
"I believe we must overhaul
extreme business taxes and reg-
ulations that are forcing jobs to
leave our state," he said. "I think
1 the Michigan legislature should
ask every time before passing a
bill,`How does this create jobs?'
This will help bring much-need-
ed priorities to Lansing."
Wolkinson attended Yeshivat
Akiva, then in Lathrup Village, and
Southfield-Lathrup High School.
After earning a law degree as well
as bachelor's and master's degrees
in economics from the University of
Michigan, he served as an assistant
general manager for an organization
helping welfare recipients find jobs.
He managed a team of 40 that placed
nearly 400 people in jobs. ❑

of degenerative diseases
