Washtenaw Federation names
new executive director.

avid Shtulman has been
named the new execu-
tive director of the Jewish
Federation of Washtenaw County Most
recently the director of agency endow-
ments at the United Jewish Federation
in Pittsburgh, Shtulman has spent his
professional career serving the global
Jewish community.

Shtulman will be introduced to the
community at the Federation's Annual
Meeting at 7 p.m. May 29, at the
Jewish Community Center.
Shtulman and his family lived in
Israel from 1981 to 1988, where they
were founders of Moshav Shorashim
in the Galilee. While there, he worked
in the medical electronics field and
participated in programs to foster bet-
ter Arab-Jewish relations in the region.
He also served as a combat engineer
in the Israel Defense Forces.
He previously served as execu-
tive director of the American Jewish
Committee, Pittsburgh Chapter, and
at the United Jewish Federation of
Pittsburgh for seven years as assistant
director of planning and allocations
and as a community relations associ-
ate.
"David is a very well-respected and
recognized Jewish professional and we
are thrilled that he decided to join our
organization in this very important
capacity'' said Malcolm Cohen, current
Federation board president.
Much of the credit for recruiting
Shtulman belongs to the search com-
mittee headed by Prue Rosenthal and
made up of a diverse cross-section of
the community's constituents.

have found such a wonderful individ-
ual who fits our community well and
has the background David brings:'
Rosenthal said.
Shtulman is a graduate of the
University of Maryland at Baltimore
where he received a Master of Social
Work. He also holds a Master of Arts
in Jewish Studies from the Baltimore
Hebrew Institute. He earned his
undergraduate degree from State
University of New York.
David and his wife, Debbie, have
two grown children, Ari, a computer
design engineer in Silicon Valley,
Calif., and Tal, also a Jewish com-
munal professional, who is currently
employed by the Associated Jewish
Federation of Baltimore.

said.
Eileen Freed of Ann Arbor has been
serving as interim director. She will
stay with the Federation and handle
Israel and Overseas issues. ❑
B'nai Moshe Examines Israel
"The State of Israel: The Next 60 Years"
is the presentation 7:30 p.m. Thursday,
June 5, at Congregation B'nai Moshe in
West Bloomfield.
Addressing present and future chal-
lenges to Israeli security will be Dr.
Raymond Tanter, professor emeritus,
University of Michigan, Department
of Political Science. Speaking on "The
Importance of Israel for Maintaining
Jewish Identity and Promoting Jewish
Values" will be Steve Freedman, Hillel
Day School of Metropolitan Detroit in
Farmington Hills. On the subject of
"The Economy of Israel" will be Yosef
Ben-Gal of Gal-Mar LLC. A question
and answer period will follow.
Cantor Earl Berris and the B'nai
Moshe Mixed Choir will perform.
Refreshments will be served.
The event, sponsored by the B'nai
Moshe Men's Club and Sisterhood, is
co-sponsored by Jewish Community
Relations Council and B'nai B'rith.
