I Metro Dancing With The Stars Shir Shalom celebrates its 20th anniversary with gala. Art Fishman of Oak Park, with Suzi and Rabbi Dannel Schwartz of Bloomfield Hills T emple Shir Shalom hosted a "Dancing with the Stars" party May 10 to commemorate its 20-year anniversary. The gala honored Robert Fineman, David Levine, Wally Sampson, Alan Mindlin, Steven Simons, Bunni Lieberman, David Steinberg, Stuart Bas and George Leikin, who were all past presidents of the West Bloomfield synagogue. Shir Shalom began with 30 committed member families in 1988 and has since grown to 880 members and 367 member families. Rabbi Dannel Schwartz was the founding rabbi of this fast-growing Pam Kornfeld, a chair of the event, and Stuart Bas, past president, both of West Bloomfield A18 May 22 • 2008 synagogue. He is joined by Michael Moskowitz, senior rabbi; Daniel Schwartz, assistant rabbi; and Penny Steyer, cantorial soloist. Shir Shalom plans to expand by opening the Corners later this year in the old Laker Center, which the synagogue bought from Congregation Shaarey Zedek of Oakland County in 2007. The Corners refers to the biblical four corners of the field that must be designated for the poor to use. Accordingly, the center will be used to house meetings, classes and activities dealing with wellness services for Jews and non-Jews, regard- less of whether or not they are members. ❑ Robert Fineman, Shir Shalom's first president, of Delray, Maura and David Levine of Bloomfield Hills Fla., and George Leikin, current president, of Sylvan Lake
