Rabbi Herschel Finman of Oak Park, who hosts the radio show The Jewish
Hour on WPON 1460, launches YouParsha, a YouTube feature. The weekly
videos are produced and edited by Brad Richter at Specs Howard School of
Broadcast Arts in Southfield and feature an insight into the weekly Torah por-

The National Council of Jewish Women-Greater Detroit Section awarded a total
of $6,000 to seven Oakland County high school students at its annual Jewish
Youth Award ceremony on April 13 at the NCJW's Southfield offices.
Candidates were local 11th or 12th-graders. Criteria included community
involvement, academic excellence, interviews, recommendations and an essay.
Winners also received the book The Golden Land by Rabbi Joseph Telushkin.
Two West Bloomfield residents, both seniors at Frankel Jewish Academy in
West Bloomfield, earned top awards: Elizabeth Traison, 17, daughter of Janice and
Steven Traison, and Sarah Baruch, 17, daughter of Linda and Murray Baruch.
Runners-up were Groves High School students Eric Sircus of Franklin,
Madeline Blum of Beverly Hills and Michael Brown of West Bloomfield; Andrew
Phillips of Novi, a student at Novi High School; and Josh Fineman of Huntington
Woods, who is home-schooled. Committee members included Janet Moses,
Claire Kretchmer, Ann Rosenberg and Irma Glaser, NCJW vice-president.

Rabbi Herbert Yoskowitz of Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills, a JWV
chaplain, will officiate as the Michigan Jewish War Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary,
members of the Royal Canadian Legion as well as the Russian Jewish War
Veterans join together for an international Memorial Day service at Machpelah
Cemetery, 21103 Woodward at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 25. Buglers from Ferndale
High School and Ben Duchan will sound taps and members of Venture Crew 18
will take part.
A second service, led by Rabbi Avie Shapiro of Jewish Home and Aging Services,
will be at 12:30 p.m. at Hebrew Memorial Park, 14 Mile at Gratiot, Clinton Twp.
In case of rain, the services will be moved indoors. LI
