I USED TO BE
A DEMOCRAT.

I held an event at my home for Barbara Boxer. I believed in helping the poor and taxing
the rich. I was angry that George Bush won in 2000. And like my liberalfiiends, I was
self-righteous about it.

After 9/1 1, I began to think more about security and ask

questions. I started to listen to what conservatives and

Republicans were saying on the radio and on television,

instead of rejecting it out of hand. It started to make sense

to me. Allowing people to invest their money, instead of

taxing them to death, creates jobs. Standing up for freedom

and against tyrants, dictators and terrorists, makes sense.

It's not easy being more conservative in Hollywood. I

posted my profile on a dating website. When I told some of

the people who emailed me back that I wasn't liberal, I got a

lecture and self-righteous scolding about my errant ways.

I find so many on the left to be angry, intolerant and hypocritical. Liberals claim to believe in free speech,

but conveniently label opinions that disagree with theirs as "hate speech." They have it all backwards. Mostly,

I prefer to be open to all ideas, not just what is politically correct.

I don't agree with the Republicans on every issue, but the Democratic Party just doesn't represent
me anymore.
