Local Business
Stars Shine At JN
Anniversary Gala

T

he Detroit Jewish News paid
tribute to a host of business and
professional stars as well as its
advertisers and community leaders at an
April 9 reception held at the Skyline Club
in Southfield. About 250 people attended.
The gala celebrated the first anniver-
sary of the JN's expanded monthly busi-
ness section.
IN Publisher Arthur M. Horwitz kicked
off the brief formal program by issuing
a call to "buy local" and patronize local
merchants. He earlier issued the same
call in a Publisher's Notebook column
Feb. 7 that elicited widespread commu-
nity support.
Gala Master of Ceremonies Jeff Zaslow,
a locally based Wall Street Journal
writer, spotlighted each of the first year's
monthly business-community Doers and
Comebackers. The Doers were selected
based on their business and communal
involvement. The Comebackers signify
young business and professional stars
who grew up locally, went away to school
or to work, and have returned to Metro
Detroit and hold gainful employment. 0
