the washer. I feel so bad that someone must be frantically looking for
their rings and have no idea where they might be. Here someone was
doing a nice mitzvah, and now their rings are missing!'
To claim the rings, e-mail Susan Pearl a description of them and
she will gladly return them to the rightful owner. Her address is

Rings Found In Robe For Fire Victims
Susan Pearl's mother, Evelyn Drootman, was one of the residents
affected by the fire earlier this month at the Lillian and Samuel
Hechtman Jewish Apartments in West Bloomfield. Soon after the fire,
Susan had stopped at the JCC and picked up a couple of donated items
for her mother. One was a powder blue robe that was just her size.
"I got home and threw it in the wash;' Susan said. "Much to my
surprise, when I went to take it out, I found two diamond rings in

Conservation Tips
What you can do to stop global warming: Reduce cooling
costs!
• In hot weather, keep the humidity low by simple things such
as covering pots when you cook and opening the window
when you take a shower to let steam and moisture escape.
• Awnings help in the summer, especially on the south and
west windows.
• Plant deciduous trees at the south side of your home or
building for shade. They block the sun and cool your home.
• Replace old air-conditioners with newer Energy Star effi-
cient models. www.energystar.gov
• Clean or replace your air-conditioner filter at least once a
month. This reduces operating costs by helping the unit to
work more efficiently.
Jewish Thought on the Environment:
And God said: "Let the earth put forth grass, herb yielding
seed, and fruit-tree bearing fruit after its kind, wherein is the
seed thereof, upon the earth." And it was so.
– Genesis 1:9

New Time For Commemoration
The Workmen's Circle-Arbeter Ring 65th Annual Warsaw Ghetto
Uprising Commemoration, which it is presenting in collaboration
with the Sholem Aleichem Institute, will be held at a new time — 7:30
p.m. — Sunday, May 4, at Hadassah House, 5030 Orchard Lake Road,
West Bloomfield.
Few conflicts in history can compare with battle of the Warsaw
Ghetto. On one side was the tremendous power of the German Army
and the Gestapo. On the other were the remnants of Warsaw's starv-
ing Jews — 40,000 civilians led by the Jewish Fighting Organization,
several hundred poorly armed young men and women who fought
valiantly. Several hundred escaping to join the partisans.
The program will include a candlelighting ceremony, music and
readings. After the program, members of the audience can add poetry,
prose, photos, drama or music for up to three minutes each.
Respond to Workmen's Circle at micirclel@aol.com or at its new
Jewish Community Center office in Oak Park, (248) 432-5667 or (248)
967-4030, ext. 2008.
