No, You Don't!
On April 18, that strategic Friday before Shabbat and the beginning of
Passover, with its two labor-intensive seders, DTE Energy planned to
cut power for about five hours to about 230 customers in the area sur-
rounding Young Israel of Southfield.
Talk about poor timing. When Sara Wasser of Farmington Hills
called on April 17 and talked to supervisors about the problem of not
having power to cook for the holiday, she was told they'd look into it;
but they really didn't budge, she said.
Then Wasser called Rabbi Yechiel Morris to intercede. After he
spoke with someone at DTE, Wasser got a call back from a supervisor
who told her the power outage was postponed until Tuesday, April 22.
"They're not Jewish; they didn't understand;' said Wasser, who hap-
pily spent the day cooking at the home of her father, Samuel Duben,
near the Southfield Young Israel.
