How To Help Hechtman Federation seeks monetary donations to aid residents displaced by fire. N early 100 elderly residents lost their homes and belongings when a devas- tating fire engulfed Hechtman II on April 9 on the Eugene and Marcia Applebaum Jewish Community Campus in West Bloomfield. The Jewish Apartments & Services' staff and local firefighters expertly handled the crisis and safely evacu- ated the building. Many Jewish com- munal agencies also responded to the crisis, assisting the residents and JAS staff that day and afterwards. The outpouring of help and support from the Jewish community has been overwhelming. To date, sufficient donations of household goods and clothing have been made. Now monetary donations are needed to meet the financial needs of the residents as they secure new liv- ing arrangements. To assist the agency in meeting these monetary needs, Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit has established the Hechtman Fire Relief Fund and is accepting donations that will be given to the agency to benefit the displaced resi- dents and aid in the recovery. To donate, send a check made payable to Jewish Federation (with a notation that it is for Hechtman Fire Relief) to Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, Hechtman Fire Relief Fund, 6735 Telegraph Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48301.
