Southfield Celebrates 50 Years
Proclamation

Whereas,

the City of Southfield was incorporated as a city on April 28, 1958, following
a favorable incorporation vote and approval of a City Charter by local voters:

Whereas,

the City of Southfield will celebrate its 50th anniversary of incorporation as a city
on April 28, 2008:

Whereas,

the City has progressed in those 50 years from a largely undeveloped, rural
farming community of approximately 15,000 residents to being the premier
business address in Michigan — a modern city of thriving neighborhoods and
high-rise buildings, with a residential population of almost 80,000.

Whereas,

from the very beginning, the City of Southfield welcomed The Ira Kaufman Chapel,
which purchased property in 1957 and opened its doors in this community in 1961:

Whereas,

The Ira Kaufman Chapel selected Southfield and this specific location with its
easy access to freeways, the entire metropolitan area and most major Jewish
cemeteries, making it extremely convenient for the Jewish community:

Whereas,

as one of the first Jewish entities in the City of Southfield, The Ira Kaufman Chapel
soon became an integral part of this diverse community and has enjoyed an
extremely positive business relationship with the City ever since:

Whereas,

the City of Southfield and The Ira Kaufman Chapel both share a common goal of
providing the best services possible to the families in their community:

Whereas,

The Ira Kaufman Chapel is committed to staying and doing business in the City
of Southfield:

Therefore,

we, THE IRA KAUFMAN CHAPEL, do hereby proclaim April 28, 2008 as the 50th
Anniversary of the CITY OF SOUTHFIELD. We call upon all citizens, organizations
and businesses to congratulate the City of Southfield on this important milestone
and on being the "Center of It All."
