t was hilarious to watch a bunch of young profession-
als act like kids again:' said Jessica Goodwin of
Southfield, a campaign associate for the
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. She
joined about 85 of her peers at Bonaventure
roller skating rink in Farmington Hills.
The group of 20- and 30-somethings laced
up their skates and took a spin around the rink
(and back in time) April 10 during Skate for
Israel, a lively, nostalgic event sponsored by the
young adult division to celebrate Israel's 60th
and also raise money for Federation's Israel
Emergency Fund.
We wanted to bring something to the com-
munity that would not only celebrate Israel's
birthday in a unique way, but also help us
relive a favorite childhood pastime so many of
us share Goodwin said.

The group raised about $1,000 to help with social welfare
needs like food baskets, after-school programs and supple-
menting security in Michigan Jewry's Partnership
2000 Region/Israel's Central Galilee. They also let
loose in a place where many remember attending
birthday parties and social gatherings as children.
"While all of us are growing up now, it's nice to
know one of our favorite childhood hotspots has
remained in tact and virtually unchanged," Goodwin
said. "They still have the classic orange snack bar
and 'shoot-the-duck' contests. It was a carefree time
— and there's nothing like acting like a kid again!"
Spotted in the Skate for Israel crowd were: Rabbi
Jennifer Kaluzny, Lindsay Faber and Jordan
Glass, all of West Bloomfield; and Rachel Wright,
Jill Menuck, Jessica Sterling, Craig Eidelman
and Brian Satovsky, all of Birmingham. ❑
