nswer: Dear Patty, the
first step is to recognize
foods with "saturated" and
"trans" (or "hydrogenated") fats in
them. Saturated and trans fats are
believed to raise your low-density
lipoprotein (LDL a.k.a. "bad")
blood cholesterol.

Trans fats are often found in pro-
cessed food such as margarines/
spreads, packaged cake/biscuit
mixes, baked goods (e.g., cookies
and donuts), snack foods, and fast
and frozen foods, to name a few.

Reading labels is essential to un-
derstanding and limiting fat intake.
The AHA recommends limiting
saturated and trans fats to less than
7% and 1%, respectively, of your
family's total daily calories. Good
luck cutting fats. I hope this helps.
