By endowing the Frankel Professorship in Cardiovascular Surgery and a research fund dedicated to advancing knowledge in that field, Sam and his wife, Jean, made a true investment in the future of medicine. "It is especially fitting that the first recipient of that pro- fessorship, Dr. Ramon Berguer, was Sam's surgeon in the late 1990s and that the Frankel name will live on as a mark of distinguished achievement and promise in cardiovascular medi- cine and surgery at our univer- sity. We will miss Sam and we offer our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones."
