Beautify Detroit

J-Serve allows youth to make a difference.

T

ikkun Olam [repair of the world]
takes center stage 11:30 a.m.
Sunday, April 13, as Jewish teens
in grades 8-12 from Metro Detroit and
Ann Arbor volunteer with Motor City
Blight Busters to help clean up and beau-
tify neighborhoods in Detroit.
Under the umbrella of J-Serve 2008,
Jewish teens from all denominations will
begin with a kickoff program and lunch
at Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington
Hills.
Samantha Hodz, Young Judaea Midwest
area supervisor, and Jodi Gross, assistant
director of education and youth at Adat
Shalom, will lead an activity to introduce
participants to each other and to the impor-
tance of what they will be doing later in the
day.
Buses then will take the teens to a work
site, where they will split into three teams

and be assigned tasks. Accompanied by
youth professionals and Blight Busters staff,
each team will have a chance to assist on
tasks revolving around revitalizing, stabiliz-
ing and beautifying part of the community.
On the way back to Adat Shalom in the
afternoon, staff will debrief with the teens
on their volunteer work.

Pesach At A Click
Helpful articles that teach the laws
of Pesach and handy Pesach prepa-
ration tips can be viewed at
www. Passpverkosher.com .
This Web site features mate-
rial culled from the STAR-K 2008
Passover Directory, available at
Jewish bookstores.
Two popular guides in one,
the directory includes STAR-K
Comprehensive Information and
Product Guide, and Rabbi Gershon
Bess' Passover Medicines and
Cosmetics guide.
Since the familiar "P" next to a
kosher certification symbol does
not appear on medicines and cos-
metics, this guide is an invaluable
resource.
