PIANO PASSIONS Twenty days of music performances, featuring headliner
entertainers from around the world, have been scheduled for the next Gilmore
International Keyboard Festival. The event, which started in 1991 and is
held every other year, has a 2008 lineup that includes many famous perform-
ers whose talents are not at the piano but are enhanced by the piano. Just a few
examples of those heading for stages in Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Grand Rapids,
Saugatuck and St. Joseph are the Trio Con Brio Copenhagen with the classics,
Bruce Hornsby with jazz, Audra McDonald with Broadway show tunes and
Alpin Hong with the latest in kids' favorites. All-told, prospective audiences can
choose from more than 100 shows scheduled April 24-May 13. For those travel-
ing to the area, there are ample places for authentic experiences — from tasteful
dining spots that celebrate the wine country to lush golf courses for sporty out-
ings. Other cultural attractions are the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Gilmore Car
Museum in Hickory Corners and Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids. Get all the
information and tickets by visiting gilmoreiscoming.com .

BABY STEPS The March of Dimes is getting ready for its big annual push to
raise funds to fight premature births, birth defects and infant mortality. There
will be a number of Michigan opportunities to participate in a March for Babies,
a new name for what had been called MarchAmerica. In Metro Detroit, the
important day is Saturday, April 27, when walks will be held at Detroit's Hart
Plaza, Milford's Kensington Metro Park and the Troy Civic Center. Last year,
some 25,000 Michigan residents raised $3.5 million. Funds are allocated to rel-
evant community grant programs, family support, projects for high-risk women
and public education. People are asked to sign up as individuals or teams with
families, friends and co-workers. For complete instructions, visit marchforbabies.

ESCADA UNEQUALED The latest Escada clothing designs for spring — ele-
gant, feminine and colorful — will be featured at a fashion show benefiting the
Michigan Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America. The event
gets started at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Saks Fifth Avenue in Troy. The
Escada collection, which goes beyond clothing to include fashion eyewear and
fragrances, was launched by Margaretha and Wolfgang Ley in 1976 and now
generates sales in excess of $1 billion represented in some 400 stores in more
than 60 countries. The event, which raises funds for research to help those suf-
fering with inflammatory bowel disease, also includes a raffle awarding a stay in
Aspen, personal training sessions and tickets to sports events. Prices range from
$65-$125 with Saks gift cards given to those with the higher-priced tickets.
