Dear
Barb, s Na-
tional Nutrition
Month draws
to a close, any
thoughts about
nutrition and nutrition counseling
in the larger scheme of things?
Thanks, Jim.
A
nswer: Dear Jim, Thanks
for the question. I think it's
fair to say that I've been
focused on nutrition and wellness
since I was a fairly young child. I
had the sad experience of losing
my parents prematurely, which
I believe may have been, at least
in part, related to a lack of nutri-
tional understanding and less than
optimal eating behaviors that were
common at the time.
Since then, nutritional sci-
ence and related therapies
have made great strides in
advancing our understand- -
--:\
(, ‘4l, , ing of proper nutrition and
) sound eating behaviors.
/ Unfortunately, none
\ of us are born with a
li scientific knowledge of
nutrition or with instinc-
tual eating behaviors
that "automatically" lead
us to optimal health and
wellness. Like most impor-
tant things in life, these things are
learned. In the current information
age, no small part of the problem is
being able to separate the "wheat
from the chaff," so to speak.
:
It's never too early or too late to
improve your nutritional lifestyle
—nutritional counseling can defi-
nitely help.
