Mark Israel's 60th
With Film Viewing
On Tuesday, April 8, as part of
Congregation Beth Shalom's cele-
bration of Israel's 60th birthday, the
Oak Park synagogue's Israel Affairs
Committee will
present Cast a
Giant Shadow, an
epic film about
the founding of
the State of Israel
starring Kirk
Douglas.
In a live, 15-
Kirk Douglas
minute audio
interview following the film, Kirk
Douglas will talk about his experi-
ence making this film and how it
affected his own connection to his
Jewish roots.
The film is scheduled to start at 7
p.m. in the social hall. Tickets: $5.
Kirk Douglas plays real-life

en its army in 1948. Reluctant and
conflicted over his Jewish heritage,
Marcus' experience in Israel turns
him into a passionate Zionist.
The supporting cast includes
John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, Angie
Dickinson, Yul Brynner and Senta
Berger.
"We are very fortunate that Kirk
Douglas is making himself avail-
able to us for a live interview for
this event:' said Beth Shalom Rabbi
Dan Wolpe. "He has spoken and
written about how his experience
making this film reconnected him
to his own Jewish roots, and he'll
share that with us following the
movie."
Refreshments will be served.

advance reservations; call (248)
