Schindler had never met Courtney
Cook and Adam Cook from Milwaukee
before the reunion. But she did know
their father, her cousin Craig Cook,
who also attended, but hadn't seen
him in more than 30 years. "It was
incredibly emotional for both of us,"
she said. "We were both in tears. Over
30 years — and he lives in Ferndale,
just a few miles from me:'
To continue the relationships, Jerry
Cook and Matthew Schindler are
planning to update the "Cook Book:' a
history of the family written by Jerry
and wife Barbara in 1997. It includes
a family tree created by Alan Schindler.
The new edition will include photos

and biographies prepared by centen-
nial reunion guests and an updated
family tree.
"There are so many memories that
I have of our family, but what stands
out most in my mind is that the Cooks
were all gentle, loving, warm, down-to-
earth people, and nothing meant more
to them than their family;' Schindler
said.
"I am a first-time grandmother and
it is very important to me that my
grandchildren have the same wonder-
ful memories growing up as I did. It is
up to me and the rest of the family to
stay close so that can come to pass."

Matzah Making Mania
Making matzah will continue at the
Jewish Community Center in West
Bloomfield when Shalom Street opens
the Barbara and Douglas Bloom
Matzah Factory running April 6-13.
From 1-5 p.m. on the two consecutive
Sundays and by group appointments 9
a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, children
can hands-on make "Shmurah" matzah
in 18 minutes.
With the support of the Bloom family
of Birmingham and under the supervi-
sion of Rabbi Amzalak and members
of the Bais Chabad, the Matzah Factory
is a program run by Federation's
Affiance for Jewish Education, Jewish
Experiences for Families, Shalom Street
and the Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit.
In addition to the Matzah Factory,
visitors can participate in activities
and crafts, including learning the story
and symbols of the Passover.

from an early age not to gos-
