"Israel at 60: The Dream
and the Reality, a series of interac-
tive lectures and workshops March
23, 24 and 31 featuring guest
lecturer Rabbi Sidney Schwarz,
author of Judaism and Justice:
The Jewish Passion To Repair the
World and founder and director of
PANIM: The Institute for Jewish
Leadership and Values.
"Israel at 60: A Dream Come
True?" begins 7 p.m. Sunday,
March 23, with registration and
hors d'oeuvres offering a taste of
Israel. Rabbi Schwarz will begin at
7:30 p.m., discussing early Zionist
dreams and the reality of modern
Israel.
"Dilemmas in Israeli
Democracy" will be 7:30 p.m.
Monday, March 24. Talk will
include issues of security for all
citizens.
"Israel: Where Do You Stand?"
will be 7:30 p.m. Monday, March
31.Guests will review a series of
cartoons, statements and photo-
graphs that offer different perspec-
tives on contemporary Israel, then
discuss their reactions.
This workshop will include
Don Cohen of B'nai B'rith-
Michigan Region; Robert Cohen
and Allan Gale of the local Jewish
Community Relations Council;
and Harvey Levin and Judy Loebl
of Federation's Alliance for Jewish
Education.
Each program costs $8 for JCC
members and $10 for non-mem-
bers, or $20 for JCC members and
$25 for non-members for all three
programs.
All programs will be at the JCC
in West Bloomfield, and are in
cooperation with the JCRC and
Federation's Israel@60.
