"More significant is the difficult eco-
nomic challenge he said. "It is difficult for
businesses in Israel to compete globally
and we face many unfriendly purchas-
ing managers or people who fear supply
line involving Israel. The news does not
help, but even during the last Lebanon
war there were no missed deliveries from
Israel, the ports operated, factories ran
and products were built and delivered," he
said.
"We really need the help of the Jewish
management and purchasing executives,
we need the help of the Christian commu-
nities to purchase Israel products, creating
jobs for people in Israel."
Since making aliyah, Paul Linden has
run a small consulting firm in Ashdod that
supports advanced automotive technology
projects. The family came to Israel after
he accepted an early retirement package
from Ford Motor Company. Edith Linden
works as a nurse, practicing renal dialysis
in Kibbutz Zora.
While living in Michigan, all of the
Linden's sons attended Yeshivat Akiva in
Southfield. Noam is now a high school stu-
dent in Rehovot and Yochanan is planning
to begin his Israel Defense Forces military
service on March 18.
Condolences poured into Israel from
around the world, including from the
White House. The "barbaric and vicious
attack on innocent civilians deserves the
condemnation of every nation:' President
George W. Bush said. "The United States
stands firmly with Israel in the face of this
terrible attack."
Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman
Arye Mekel said after the attack, "These
terrorists are trying to destroy the chances
of peace, but we certainly will continue the
peace talks.
"We cannot and must not negotiate
with terrorists:' he said. "We have to isolate
them, condemn them and put them out
of business. Quite simply, the world has
not been aggressive enough in isolating
Hamas and proving to the Palestinian
people that acts of terrorism will not lead
them to a sustaineable, peaceful future."
U.S. Rep. Joe Knollenberg, R-Farmington
Hills, said terror has no place in the
Israel sixty
civilized world. He called on isolation of
Hamas from inclusion in any Palestinian
government. "We cannot and must not
negotiate with terrorists:' he said.
Followers of Hamas in Gaza danced in
the streets following the yeshivah mas-
sacre although the terrorist organization
withdrew its initial claim of responsibility.
Among the many area synagogues send-
ing out a call for special prayers to be said
for those injured in the attack is the Sara
and Morris Tugman Bais Chabad Torah
Center of West Bloomfield.
In addition, the synagogue's rabbi,
Elimelech Silberberg, said, "I explained
to my congregation this Shabbos that
the boys who were killed were devoted
to Torah study and their deaths make it
incumbent upon us to fill the void that
was created.
"I suggested that every one of us should
study throughout the next two months at
least one-half hour extra of Torah study
per week for each boy who was killed." ❑

We must not be afraid and contin-
ue to rebuild the nation both physi-
cally and spiritually.
The Rambam [the sage
Maimonides] writes in the Laws
of Kings, "After [a soldier] enters
battle, he will rely on the hope of
Israel and its savior in times of
trouble and [he should] know that
for the Oneness of God he is fighting
... and [he] will not fear ... the blood
of all of Israel is on his shoulders ...
and anyone that fights with all of his
heart without fear and his intent is
only to sanctify God ... will merit to
build a right household ... him and
his offspring forever ..."
The friends that I lost are in the
highest heaven. They'll be happy to
know that we're continuing to be
strong.
At the shooting, the thought that
overtakes the mind endlessly: If only
he won't see me; if only he'll miss.
I hope to see everyone making
aliyah soon, and then we can have a
get-together at a hilltop in the West
Bank with the whole Detroit com-
munity. May we see lots of blessing
in our deeds.
With love for all of Am Yisrael,
Chaim Linden. ❑

The Answer
Israel's military is moral and is for
defensive purposes. It does its best
to minimize civilian casualties, while
Hamas' rockets are intended to maxi-
mize civilian deaths and injury. The
terrorists hide among civilians and fire
their weapons from civilian neighbor-
hoods.
