concert open to the public and

for all ages featuring Israel musi-
cian Michael HarPaz and his
band on April 7 will kick off enrollment
for ATID, the new high school initiative for
Conservative Jewish teenagers.
In Hebrew, atid means future. The
Hebrew letters of the word are an acro-
nym for Amutat Tichon l'Yaldei Detroit,
the consolidated high school for the teens
of Detroit. ATID will replace existing
Monday night high school programs for
"Conservateens" in grades 8-12.
The mission of ATID is to provide Jewish
education for post-b'nai mitzvah teens in a
stimulating environ-
ment fostering an
appreciation of lifelong
Jewish living and
learning. Classes will
be held at Hillel Day
School of Metropolitan
Detroit
in Farmington
i
Hills.
Michael HarPaz
The April 7 event at
Hillel will feature the
live Michael HarPaz concert as well as food,
iPod giveaways, prizes and games.
Born and raised in Detroit, HarPaz,
the son of immigrant parents, moved to
Israel in 1995 with only a few dollars in
his pocket, his guitar on his back and high
ambitions. Within a year, he became a
founding member of the biggest band in
Israeli history. As the lead singer in HiFive,
HarPaz spent the next four years perform-
ing to sold-out arena shows.
He became part of the songwriting team
for producer John Eaton, writing for such
artists as P. Diddy, Usher and the Roots. In
New York, Michael recorded in the studio
with Jennifer Lopez, Ashanti and Ja Rule.
Tickets are free for students in grades
7 12 currently enrolled in a Conservative
synagogue educational program, Hillel Day
School 7th- and 8th-graders and Frankel
Jewish Academy students. Tickets are on
sale at Conservative synagogues, Hillel
Day School and Yossi's restaurant in West
Bloomfield. Tickets also can be reserved at
detroit.planitjewish.com by searching for
the ATID HarPaz event. Advance, tickets are
$20. Tickets will be available at the door at 6
p.m. for $25; ages 12 and younger are $15.
Contact Rabbi Jason Miller, interim ATID
director, about ATID or the April 7 event at
