VISUAL VIBRATIONS Frances Cocagne wants people to feel the pulse of her
abstract paintings, which are both delicate and complicated. Often using musical
terms to describe her pieces, Cocagne communicates internal rhythms through
color and shape and harmony through repetition of design elements. The gradu-
ate of the Detroit-based College for Creative Studies shows her works through
March 29 at the Lawrence Street Gallery in Ferndale. This exhibit follows a num-
ber of showings at her alma mater and other local galleries, including C-Pop and
Neal Davis. The opening reception, planned 6-9 p.m. Friday, March 7, features
music by the Troubadours. Lawrence Street hours are noon-5 p.m. Wednesdays-
Thursdays, noon-9 p.m. Fridays and noon-5 p.m. Saturdays. (249) 544-0394;

IMPROVEMENT STARS Reflecting pools, waterfalls, fountains, stone patios
and thousands of colorful blooming flowers provide a lush background for the
Michigan Home & Garden Show, running March 7-9 at Ford Field in Detroit.
Plenty of experts will be available to answer questions on plans and problems of
homeowners. Visitors can meet Frank Fontana, host and lead designer of HGTV's
Design on a Dime; Chef Angus Campbell of Grand Rapids Community College's
award-winning Secchia Institute for Culinary Education; and Glenn Haege,
master handyman and newspaper columnist. There will be hundreds of new and
innovative products and services for inside and outside the home accompanied by
educational demonstrations involving renovations, improvements, maintenance,
gardening and landscaping. Several downtown restaurants will be offering specials
and discounts for those attending programs. Hours are noon-9 p.m. Friday, 10
a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. $9 adults, $4 children 6-14, free
for those 5 and younger. On Family Day, March 8, children 6-14 are admitted
free from 10 a.m.-noon, and special activities are planned for youngsters all day.

SPANISH GUITAR Grammy Award—winning classical guitarist David Russell
is the featured guest for the Latin Fire concert planned by the Ann Arbor
Symphony Orchestra. Russell, who resides in Spain but travels the world, will
perform Vivaldi's Guitar Concerto and Rodrigo's soul-searching Concerto Aranjuez
8 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Michigan Theater, 603 E. Liberty, on the
University of Michigan campus. Russell, a fellow of the Royal Academy of Music
in London, will be part of a program that includes the world premiere of a musi-
cal composition and a dance performance: U-M composition student Jeff Myers'
Liberation will be played by the orchestra, and choreographer Peter Sparling will
showcase dramatic footwork to interpret De Falla's Three Cornered Hat Suite No. 2.
