Professor Tanter conducts research and
teaches courses on domestic and
international terrorism in relation to proliferation of weapons
of mass destruction — nuclear, chemical, and biological
armaments — with a special focus on al Qaeda.

He disseminates knowledge about terrorism and terrorist
operations to public officials in the White House and in the
Pentagon.

The Iran Policy Committee is a Washington, DC "think tank"
that studies how Iran's ties to domestic terrorist groups might
play out in the event of a military confrontation among the
Iranian regime, the United States, and the State of Israel. It has
developed policy options to counter the threat from Iranian
proxies and from al Qaeda to the U.S. homeland, to American
citizens abroad, and to Israel.

Professor Tanter has been associated with numerous
universities and is a prolific writer. He was a Professor at the
University of Michigan until 2000, when he became
Professor Emeritus.
