HELEN LANKIN,
94, of Southfield,
died Feb. 11, 2008.
She was born in
Czestochowa, Poland,
in 1913. Having lost
six members of her
immediate family in
the Holocaust, and surviving a forced
march and incarcerations at several
concentration camps, she was finally
liberated from Bergen Belsen and
moved to Sweden after the war.
Several years later, she was able
to immigrate to Detroit, where she
worked out of her house as a seam-
stress alongside her husband, Aaron.
She will be remembered by her fam-
ily as having incredible inner strength
to survive and persevere. She was a
role model for her family and others.
She was caring and compassionate
and she always maintained her sense
of humor throughout her life.
Mrs. Lankin is survived by her
daughter, Phyllis (Ron) Ostroff of
Birmingham; grandchildren, Zack
(Jennifer Sima) Ostroff, Siv Ostroff
and Adam (Amy) Ostroff; great-grand-
children, Noa Ostroff and Maia Ostroff.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Aaron Lankin.
Internment at Clover Hill Park
